Say Something Good

Acts 13:15
Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak.

My mother used to say, “If you don’t have anything good to say about somebody than don’t say anything at all.” The world is filled with so much negativity already; we don’t need to pollute it any further with our toxic words.

I think that’s why I don’t like watching reality TV shows anymore. I’m tired of all of the negativity. Sometimes, I can’t listen to the radio because of all the violence and animosity. Nas was interviewed on Chelsea Lately about the constant beef in Hip Hop. He was asked what it was like when he went to the Grammy’s and he saw other artist that he or others may have disrespected in a song. “Do you just say hey how are you doing and act like nothing happened?” Nas laughed and said, “No you have to live by what you put out there. The Hip Hop industry is a competitive industry where people are just concerned about being number one, constantly.”

I remember Hip Hop prophets like Chuck D who used to encourage us with songs like, “Brother’s going to work it out and it takes a nation of millions to hold us back.” If you have anything encouraging to say please speak!
  1. Use your words to build up not tear people down. Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29
  2. If you get the mic say something that gives life. Proverbs 18:21NCV What you say can mean life or death. Those who speak with care will be rewarded.
  3. Study before you speak. Acts 13:15 15 After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."
  4. If you don’t have anything good to say be quiet. Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it's in your power to help them.
Dear God,

Use me to encourage not discourage. Cleanse my heart so that when my mouth opens, only good things come out.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
