The Manna Ceased

Joshua 5:12
Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.

Isn’t it amazing how God is sustaining us during these hard times? This recession has created a whole new class of people, the working homeless and the affluent poor. People are displaced and depressed, but in the middle of it all God is keeping us alive. So many people are trying to label President Obama a Socialist for trying to re-distribute wealth to the poor and for the government giving too much money to stimulate a “jacked up economy” that we inherited from the Bush Administration. If that’s what a Socialist is, then I guess God was a Socialist as well, because he got involved in a big way with his people until they got through the recession.

The Children of Israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. We’ve been in this recession a little over a year and can’t believe how hard it has been. Try 40 years of Recession. God kept them 40 years by feeding them bread from heaven called Manna and Quail that he drove in with an East Wind.

When they crossed over God caused a recession. The water in the Jordan River was at flood stage and when the priests with the Ark of the Covenant stepped in the water, it receded and the people crossed over on dry ground. If we are going to make it through this recession, the men and women of God need to stand in the gap for our Joshua, president Obama, so that the people can get over. Too many conservative Christians are Criticizing instead of standing in the gap for our Joshua. One wise man told me the problem with conservative Christians is that they Love Jesus but they hate the world. My bible says that God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten son…what a stimulus package that was. We need to put our ideological differences aside and stand in the gap for our leadership.

When everybody got over, the priests stepped on dry ground with the ark and the water flowed again.

When they got over and ate the produce of the land the manna ceased. The water started flowing again and the manna stopped. The economy started flowing again and the handouts stopped. The economy started flowing again and there was no more need for “big government.” The welfare of heaven stopped when the people ate from the produce of the Land. God wants us to eat from the produce of our own land and after that happens that’s when he shuts off the manna.

How does that apply to us in this recession? When we get through this recession and people get gainful employment that’s when:

1. We eat our own produce. We need to export more than we import. We need more home grown products.

2. We ought not to expect anymore big bail outs from the government.

3. Welfare should cease once the people fare well.

4. Also AIG … you are not supposed to take anything for yourself when God gives you Jericho.

Dear God, help us to cross over into a land where we all can be productive again. We appreciate the heavenly assistance. Once we get over help us to remember how we got over. Thank you for the manna in the meantime.

In Jesus Name.
Amen.
