Two Are Better Than One!

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

New International Version (NIV)

9 Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their labor:

10 If either of them falls down,

one can help the other up.

But pity anyone who falls

and has no one to help them up.

As successful as Adam was, God said, “It’s not good for a man to be alone.” God made Adam a suitable help mate. Each of us in order to be fulfilled, needs someone significant that can help us meet our full potential. I think it was Lil Wayne that said, “woman of my dreams, I’ll never find her, because I don’t sleep.” Ironically enough, Adam didn’t find Eve until he was asleep and God brought her out of Adam. It’s not until we rest in God’s presence after doing God’s will that God matched us up with a help mate.

It’s interesting that when people find their ideal job or business or team, they will use the analogy of a good marriage. Like Adam, we must also find good help mates at work and at home. It's not good for a man or a woman to work alone.

What are the benefits of two working together?

1. Together they have a good return on their work. You get more done when you are working together.

2. If you fall down the other will be there to help you up. If you fall down by yourself nobody will be there to help you get back to your feet. You don’t want to be like the elderly lady on the Life Alert commercial, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” We need a Mick from Rocky in our Corner to tell us to Get Up when we fall down.

3. Keep each other covered. Two people can keep each other from freezing to death when it’s cold.

4. More likely to defend yourselves. One person can be easily overwhelmed whereas two people can fight back to back to keep from being overwhelmed.

5. Not easily broken. A cord of three strands is not easily broken. When you are in good relationship with two or three good people that’s a strong bond.

Dear God,

Thank you for sending me a help mate at home and at work. I am surrounded by good people who make work more satisfying and make me better. Two are better than one.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
